Apple vulnerabilities could put crypto wallets at risk

The US technology company Apple recently launched a new security update.

The reason for this are weaknesses in the old operating system, which, among other things, could affect the security of crypto wallets

On January 26, 2021, Apple published a report regarding the security update on the company’s website. According to Apple, there are security flaws that could allow hackers to remotely access crypto wallets. The update is available for the Apple devices iPhone 6s and higher, the iPad Air 2 and higher, the iPad Mini 4 and higher and the iPod Touch. However, only devices with the iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 operating systems are affected. Apple clarified the relevance of the update and commented on the possible effects of the vulnerability as follows:

An attacker could potentially cause any code to run. Apple is known that this issue may have been actively exploited.

Shortly after Apple reported the vulnerabilities, Coinbase’s chief engineer Pete Kim responded and warned his customers via Twitter :

If you are using a mobile crypto wallet on an iOS device, you need to update iOS ASAP!

In the past, hackers repeatedly tried to attack crypto wallets. The reason for this is that the attackers do not have to convert the looted assets into cash in order to make a profit from them. For hackers, cryptocurrencies are equivalent to cash. Accordingly, the safety precautions are extremely high.
